Macuto was created by Albin Ortiz as an extension of his long-standing involvement in Dominican cigar culture, hospitality, and live entertainment. The name was inspired by the traditional macuto, a woven bag used to carry what has been harvested from the countryside.
The original Macuto lounge operated for six years and became known for combining cigar gatherings with live music, friendship, and nightlife. During that period, the project hosted hundreds of cigar-focused gatherings and more than 180 concerts, while supporting local musicians and helping build a strong cultural community in Santiago.
Today, Macuto continues as both a cigar brand and an event platform. Its activities include cigar-centered cultural events, private gatherings, live performances, and collaborations that connect Dominican tobacco, bolero, jazz, hospitality, and the arts.
