Cigar Factory Tour in Puerto Plata (Cruise-Friendly)

4.9(65)
Based on Viator and Tripadvisor reviews
Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

This cigar factory experience in Puerto Plata is designed specifically for cruise ship visitors arriving at Amber Cove and Taino Bay who want a quick, accessible introduction to Dominican cigars without traveling far from the port.

Located just a short drive from the cruise terminals, this experience offers a structured, tourist-friendly cigar visit where you can learn the basics, see cigars being rolled, and enjoy local Dominican flavors.

🚢 Getting There from Your Cruise Port

  • Amber Cove: Taxi required (~$25 one way, ~15–20 minutes)

  • Taino Bay: Walkable (~15 minutes), safe area but hot under the sun

🏭 About Cremo Cigar Factory

Cremo offers a more organized and presentation-focused experience compared to other small factories in Puerto Plata.

  • Clean, well-prepared environment

  • Designed for visitors and short tours

  • Easy to follow explanations of the process

👉 Important to note:
Cremo is not a large production factory, but a tourist-oriented cigar experience.

🎯 What You’ll Learn

  • Overview of the Dominican cigar industry

  • Tobacco journey: seed → harvest → curing

  • Step-by-step explanation of cigar rolling

  • How to properly light and smoke a cigar

  • How to recognize cigar quality

🥃 What’s Included

  • One premium cigar

  • Coffee, tea, water, or non-alcoholic beverage

  • Traditional mamajuana shot

✋ Experience & Atmosphere

This experience is:

  • Easy to follow

  • Comfortable and structured

  • Ideal for visitors with limited time

However:

  • Cigars here are slightly more expensive compared to other local factories

  • The experience feels more commercial and tourist-focused

⚠️ Important: Puerto Plata vs Real Factories

There are no large cigar factories in Puerto Plata.

The closest full-scale factories are in Santiago (~2 hours away) — not realistic for most cruise ship schedules.

👉 What you see here is a simplified version of the cigar-making process, designed for short visits.

💡 Better Alternative (If You Want a More Authentic Experience)

If you’re looking for something more real and less tourist-focused, we recommend:

👉 Vivonte Cigar Factory

  • Smaller, more authentic setup

  • Better price-to-quality ratio

  • Includes cigar, coffee, and local drink

  • Option to organize a hands-on rolling experience

👉 For many visitors, Vivonte offers a more genuine Dominican cigar experience, even though it’s less polished than Cremo.

👕 Cruise Tips
